Dear colleagues

I would like to ask for your support in distributing the attached advertisement for a new full professorship in Marine Conservation to suitable candidates. The position is located at the newly established Helmholtz-Institute for Functional Marine Biodiversity at the University of Oldenburg [HIFMB], and is exceptionally well funded (full professorship + 2 full time permanent scientists + 1 technician or PhD student + equipment), comes with a reduced teaching load, and offers the possibility to contribute to creating a new research environment. HIFMB is fully financed to address fundamental questions associated with marine conservation in an interdisciplinary setting, establishing close ties to the strong marine institute at the University of Oldenburg (www.icbm.de) and the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Center for Polar and Marine Research in Bremerhaven (AWI, www.awi.de). See https://hifmb.de/en/ for some more details including rationale for this institute, its interaction with the university and AWI, and the scientists involved.

We would very much appreciate when you could distribute this position in your networks and especially directly to potential candidates. We believe this position represents a really unique opportunity to build a research group addressing fundamental questions in marine conservation while having great collaborators in ecological theory, experimental marine ecology, molecular biology, marine social sciences and data science as potential collaborators.

Thank you for your help
