[Oikos-listan] A PhD in 'Spatial thresholds of habitat availability and quality in metapopulations’.

We have a PhD position available in the lab of Jason Tylianakis
(University of Canterbury, New Zealand) for a project on 'Spatial
thresholds of habitat availability and quality in metapopulations'. The
project will examine the interplay of population dynamics, dispersal
processes and habitat quality in determining the appropriate scale for
conservation management. It has a specific focus on the conservation of
black swans in lowland lakes subject to eutrophication. This work is
positioned within a larger project examining the role of Maori
(indigenous peoples of NZ) customary approaches and practices
("kaitiakitanga") in environmental management. The ideal candidate would
have experience with spatial analysis, or more broadly with statistical
analysis and a willingness to learn new approaches. An interest in
engaging collaboratively with indigenous peoples is a must. The position
will be for three years and pays a stipend plus study fees. Further
details can be found here:
http://www.tylianakislab.org/vacancies.html (applications close 16
December).
