[Oikos-listan] PhD course in science communication (note imminent deadline!)

Dear All,

Please note that we still have a few slots available on an All-Nordic course for PhD students: http://www.helsinki.fi/luova/education/courses/science_matter_2016.html . The extended application deadline closes this SUNDAY (Sept 18), with exact instructions for how to apply here: http://www.helsinki.fi/luova/files/MSM2016_application_info.pdf  For a PhD student, the course thus offers a unique opportunity to network with Nordic colleagues.

The course aims to improve the communication skills of PhD students in ecology, evolutionary biology and related fields, with the objective of increasing information transfer and dialogue between academia, decision makers, and society at large. On the course, PhD students will practice communicating their research findings to different target audiences and the media, learn how the general public can be engaged in research projects, and hear how science is taught in schools and even kindergartens. Each day of the course has a specific theme and will start with keynote lectures and continue with workshops, exercises and group work.

Teachers include:

Dr. Mar Cabeza, University of Helsinki, course leader

Prof. Tomas Roslin, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, course leader

Ass. Prof. Mika Hietanen, Uppsala University

Prof. Corey Bradshaw, University of Adelaide

Prof. Lena Gustafsson, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences
