Hej!

Perhaps you are in a new situation where you cannot do what you have planned for this spring and summer? Perhaps you should take the opportunity to increase your knowledge and skills in basic mathematics?

We offer the distance PhD course Introduction to mathematics for researchers (NMAR303), 15 credits.
You can start to take the course when it suites you. Start immediately or later this spring.

We are also very flexible with the tempo. You can work with the course full time during a shorter period of time, or you can take it part time. Please look at the two attachments and then contact me to get access to the course.

PhD-student position in Ecology: Global warming & fish evolution

SLU Aqua (Öregrund, Sweden) is hiring – please spread this info!

PhD-student in Biology/Ecology:

Does global warming induce evolution in fish, and how to then fish sustainably?

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic person with strong quantitative skills in ecology or genomics, and a genuine interest in research & in learning to do research.

The PhD-project aim is to resolve how warming waters and fishing jointly induce evolutionary responses in fish, subsequent ecological consequences, and how fishing should be undertaken to be sustainable in the warming climate.

This position is a great opportunity to learn to do research and learn many skills, as you will do field experiments on fish responses to warming, genetic analyses of archived fish tissues from historical collections and of new samples, as well as use mathematical modelling of eco-evolutionary dynamics of fish and their prey to analyse their responses to warming and fishing. You will join our team working on the dynamics of fish communities and aquatic food webs, and their responses to climate change, exploitation and other human pressures. Welcome to visit us at www.slu.se/fishinfoodwebs!

Deadline April 20, 2020. Apply at https://www.slu.se/en/about-slu/jobs-vacancies/?rmpage=job&rmjob=3529&rmlang=UK.

Subject: GGBC spring workshops (online)

Upcoming workshops with the GGBC!

This spring the GGBC invites you to two online biodiversity workshops. We start off with a 3-day course on Spatial Analysis in R and continue the week with a 2-day workshop on Python for Biologists. The content between the two courses is not directly related, but they are scheduled all within one week, so you can choose to attend both of them consecutively! There is also the option to only join for single sessions of the workshops (see attached course descriptions). Should you choose to attend both courses there are possibilities to receive credits from the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences at the University of Gothenburg, please contact us for more information on this.

To sign up send 5 lines of motivations to join the course Matthias Obst by May 4th the latest.

Spatial Analysis in R 25th - 27th May

Location: online course

Downloading, processing, and analyzing spatial data in R.

Installation instructions will be sent out ahead of the course start. See the attached course description for more information.

Python for biologists 28th - 29th May

Dear all,

We have three associate professor positions announced in the new research section targeting Multiscale Biology at NTNU Trondheim. The new colleagues will help us to integrate our plant research spanning from the molecular to the ecosystems level. Our new colleagues will cover research in plant physiology, molecular ecology and the computational modeling of plant and ecosystem processes. If you are interested in joining us and help shape our new Multiscale Biology group within the Department of Biology, please have a closer look at the link below. We look forward to your application.

The provisional starting dates are this summer, however, that will be rather flexible.

All details and descriptions of the positions as well as application deadlines can be found here: altermattlab.ch/positions/

Thank you for forwarding this information to possible candidates!

Best wishes and stay healthy,

Florian
