Postdoctoral position: modelling microclimate and vegetation responses to retention forestry and drought

Dear colleagues,

I would very much appreciate if you could help me spread this postdoctoral position in your network to potential interested candidates.

Postdoc: How retention forestry buffer forest microclimate and extreme climate events

We are seeking a postdoc that will research the forest microclimate buffering under variable retention forestry and extreme climate events. Forest management and climate change put forest microclimate buffering under increasing pressure, with overlooked effects on forest biodiversity and function. This postdoc will focus on how forest retention patches can buffer microclimate and extreme drought, examining the related responses in multiple forest-dwelling organisms.

Postdoc position in plant-soil interactions in arctic tundra

Dear colleagues,

I am now, in collaboration with Eveline Krab, offering a Postdoc position (2 years) at Umeå University, and I hope you will help us spread this information to suitable candidates!

The deadline for application is October 24th, 2022.

https://umu.varbi.com/en/what:job/jobID:546626/

The holder of the position will investigate plant-soil-interactions, such as carbon and nitrogen cycling, in arctic ecosystems, and how these are driven by different mycorrhizal types. The specific focus of this postdoctoral position within the larger project will be developed together with the candidate.

More information about the position can be found via the link above. We welcome all applications!
Thank you for your help, and apologies for cross-postings.

Best wishes,
Gesche Blume-Werry

Biodiversa+ Joint Call for Research Proposals Launch

The Biodiversa+ Call for Research Proposals on
"Improved transnational monitoring of biodiversity and ecosystem change for science and society"
is now open!

Biodiversa+ is pleased to announce the launch of its 2022-2023 call and invites research teams from Europe and beyond to submit proposals on biodiversity monitoring.

This call aims to support transnational research projects (3-years duration) addressing one or more of the three (non-exclusive) themes below:

  1. Innovation and harmonisation of methods and tools for the collection and management of biodiversity monitoring data
  2. Addressing knowledge gaps on biodiversity status, dynamics, and trends to reverse biodiversity loss
  3. Making use of available biodiversity monitoring data

The call covers all environments, i.e. terrestrial, freshwater and marine in Europe and beyond.

Projects are encouraged to combine aspects from various themes. The projects funded by this call should help to better characterise, understand and report on the state and trends of biodiversity.

To be eligible, research consortia will have to include teams from a minimum of 3 countries participating in the call (including a minimum of two from EU Member States or EU Associated Countries).

A two-step process will apply to this call, with a mandatory submission of pre-proposals at the first step (deadline: 9 November 2022 at 15:00 CET) and submission of full proposals at the second step (deadline: 5 April 2023 at 15:00 CET).

The complete announcement and call documents, including full eligibility and evaluation criteria, are available on the call page. Potential applicants are invited to attend a general information webinar on 20 September 2022, from 3:00PM to 4:30PM CEST. Register now to participate in this workshop!

Event - Data Beyond Borders
Collaborating to support biodiversity information needs in Europe and beyond

Join Biodiversa+ and GBIF for a one-day symposium on the margins of the 29th meeting of the GBIF Governing Board (GB29). Participants will discuss the needs for and challenges to obtaining reliable biodiversity information to inform decision-making. This symposium presents an opportunity to recognise the urgency of actions, reflect on the values shared by key initiatives and bodies, and spark dialogue around how and where complementary action can work together more effectively.

PhD position Aarhus University - phosphorus biogeochemistry in managed peatlands

Please spread the info about a PhD position Aarhus University below.

Best wishes, Leonard

From: Dominik Henrik Zak <doz@ecos.au.dk>
Subject: PhD position Aarhus University

Dear all,

we would be happy if you could spread the word (below : -)!

We are seeking for a PhD candidate working on phosphorus biogeochemistry in managed peatlands. Applicants should be familiar with element cycling and chemical/microbial processes in soils. Experimental experience with soil analyses and geochemical methods applied to soils and water will be an advantage. The applicant should be interested in both field and laboratory work and need to hold or obtain a drivers licence.

The position should start December 2022 but latest January 20223 and working place will be Aarhus University. Further details and application link can be found here:

https://phd.tech.au.dk/for-applicants/apply-here/saeropslag/phosphorus-biogeochemistry-in-managed-wetlands

We are an engaged wetland group at Aarhus University having profound experiences on hydrology, biology, geochemistry and modeling of water and nutrient fluxes.

The last two years we have instrument several amazing wetland sites to be used as “living labs” and we would be very happy to settle a fruitful PhD project in such a place.

Many thanks and best regards,

Dominik and Hans
