2-year post-doctoral scholarship on arctic plant-fungal interactions

Dear all,

We are looking for a post-doc to come and work with us within a project exploring how expanding subarctic shrubs and trees interact with ectomycorrhizal fungi under climatic changes. The post doc’s project focuses specifically on how these plant-fungal interactions effect plant functional trait responses to climate change and may regulate tundra ecosystem functioning.

The work is based in the Forest Vegetation Ecology group at the Department of Forest Ecology and Management | Externwebben (slu.se), SLU, Umeå. The post-doc will work with Maja Sundqvist (Maja Sundqvist | Externwebben (slu.se) ) as main advisor, and Michael Gundale (Michael Gundale | Externwebben (slu.se)) and Zsofia Stangl (Zsofia Réka Stangl | Externwebben (slu.se)) as co-advisors, in a collaborative team of researchers at the department, within Sweden and USA. The project involves both laboratory and experimental field work, data analysis and manuscript writing. All field work is based from the Abisko Scientific Research station and the Latnjajaure Field Station in northern Sweden.

Form of position: The position is funded as a research scholarship (stipend) paid bi-annually over two years from the Kempe Foundation. The stipend equates to 25,000 kr (Swedish kronor) per month tax free. For more information about this stipend position, please contact Maja Sundqvist.

Starting date: The starting date is flexible but earliest March 2022.

Duration: This post doc scholarship runs for 2 years.

Qualifications: We seek a motivated and enthusiastic person with good communication skills in English, both written and verbal, with a PhD in plant and soil microbial ecology, plant- and/or ecophysiology, biogeochemistry or related fields. We seek a person who can work well within a diverse team of collaborators as well as independently. Previous experience with field and lab work, including in remote locations, and with isotopic labelling (13C and 15N) is highly desirable, as is a driver’s license.

How to apply: Please send 1) a Cover letter stating your research background and interests, and why you are applying for this scholarship, 2) a CV including a list of your publications, 3) a copy of PhD certificate, and 4) a minimum of three references and their contact information to Maja Sundqvist (maja.sundqvist@slu.se) before February 25, 2022.

Please help us spread the word to colleagues you think might be interested in this position!

Best wishes,

Maja
