Subject: RE: soil health Post-doc position @ Soil Biology Group, Wageningen University

Dear Colleagues,

I hope you do not mind the cross posting- but I would like to ask for your help in advertising the our most recent post-doc position at the Soil Biology Group, at Wageningen University. The position is focused on monitoring of soil health. It is a 4 yr post-doc position focused on developing a soil health/multifunctionality monitoring framework. The position will have 4 focus areas:

The portfolio for this position will be split into four key areas;

  1. Develop a flexible quantitative scientific framework to define indicators of soil health and multifunctionality (biological, chemical and physical) (Building on the work of Creamer et al., 2022 and Zwetsloot et al., 2022) across a range of scales and ecosystems.
  2. Further develop the BIOSIS method selection tool (www.biosisplatform.eu) for a range of user contexts, from applied research to support land managers to policy decision making.
  3. Create a soil monitoring benchmarking approach for application in a range of climatic regions for agricultural soils.
  4. Quantify synergies and trade-offs in multifunctionality at different scales of assessment for a range of ecosystem types.

Existing research projects related to this position include LANDMARK (https://landmark2020.eu/), BIOSIS (https://biosisplatform.eu/)

Really hope you can pass this onto your networks and help us to find the best candidates!

PhD-position on production in reindeer husbandry

Dear all,

We are looking for a PhD candidate to our project REINFORCE on production in Reindeer husbandry were we aim at analysing population and production data from in relation to climate change and other land uses. The candidate will work with a team of researchers from SLU, Dalarna University and from Norway.

In this PhD-project the graduate student will use 25 years records of reindeer numbers and slaughter from the 51 herding communities in Sweden, and a unique 40-year set of records from 20,000 individually marked calves and their mothers collected from one herding community. Weather events, access to pasture, external land use and herders' management strategies will be related to reindeer performance and herd productivity over time. The project will be based on a co-production of knowledge approach together with reindeer husbandry.

Best wishes,

PhD on ecological restoration of wind energy facilities from construction to decommission

NTNU is seeking candidates for a position that will assess life-cycle options for ecological restoration from construction to decommissioning.

This will form the basis for evaluating the relationship between biodiversity loss and carbon equivalents from wind-power plants but also include the requirements for ecological restoration of these impacts during operation and after decommissioning. This enables developing best practice restoration methods that most efficiently can minimise the negative impacts of onshore wind turbines on area loss, habitat for biodiversity and carbon sequestration.

Please note that we are particularly interested in candidates that speak Norwegian. Apply here before July 1st:

Hi

I'm writing to help spread the word about a new "Chemical Ecology" faculty position in our department. Please feel free to forward to any and all you think might be interested. We define "chemical ecology" very broadly, and are just looking for the right person for this research-centered position.

All the best,

Bill
